Goal 2 focuses on building strong, respectful partnerships and communication with Indigenous communities to ensure their autonomy and leadership in research. Recognizing the importance of respecting Indigenous communities as they drive their own research agenda and develop solutions is essential. By creating community research agreement templates and incorporating community-specific processes, we aim to foster collaboration that respects each community’s unique values and needs. Establishing a comprehensive list of example research agreements and ensuring proper knowledge citations in all outputs will uphold integrity and honor Indigenous knowledge. Moreover, Goal 2 emphasizes the significance of long-term relationships, encouraging seasonal check-ins and engagement plans to establish connections with Indigenous communities. Lastly, we recognize the need to support Indigenous data sovereignty, ensuring that communities have control over their own data priorities. This goal promotes a framework that not only values Indigenous leadership but also upholds their rights and autonomy throughout every phase of the research process.
